# OneCue

> OneCue is the decision layer that sits between a software project and every coding agent that touches it. It records the decisions a project has made — what was chosen and why — and surfaces the ones relevant to the task — usually one, a few when it spans several — each with its source, before the agent changes the code. Decisions live in a git-tracked .onecue/ folder, so they travel across agents and machines. OneCue’s own storage stays on your machine; the coding agent’s provider traffic is unchanged, with background verification and a context-spend report — both are planned.

## When to use this

Reach for OneCue when a coding agent keeps paying to re-learn a project:
repeated repository discovery, re-proposing approaches that were already
rejected, or missing the reason a constraint exists. It fits solo developers on
long-lived codebases who run Claude Code or Devin across many sessions, and
small teams whose decisions live in scattered conversations.

Use it to: preserve a decision with its reason, surface one relevant cue on the
next prompt, keep a dead end from being rebuilt, and verify the setup with a
doctor check. Don't expect it to: replace CLAUDE.md or native memory, or run
background verification today (planned). Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, and
OpenCode load the skill; hooks today are Claude Code and Devin.

## How an agent should call it

Install inside a git repo:

```sh
curl -fsSL https://onecue.sh/install.sh | sh
```

or skill-only: `npx skills add onecueai/onecue-skill`. Then `onecue remember` to save a
decision, `onecue recall <context>` to see what a prompt would surface, and
`onecue doctor` to verify hooks, store, and runtime. Decisions are plain
Markdown under `.onecue/decisions/` — read and write them directly.
